Today 3 years ago we were walking the streets of Pompeii. We had spent several day in Sorrento, taken a beautiful ride up the Amalfi Coast, and now Pompeii! Kay was so excited, she had read a book in elementary school and had dreamed of seeing the city someday.
The Amalfi Coast is just absolutely amazing. The houses are perched on the sides of these steep mountains and cliffs. We know that this was out of necessity not for the view. They talk of their history in thousands of years and being invaded time and time again. The Italian people respect each other and nature. They are a very passionate people. They truly believe in quality and nature, whether it’s making wine or creating a delicious tomato sauce for their pasta. I mentioned earlier that we took several cooking classes while there and the teachers shared their recipes with us and gave us permission to published them in our “tour of Italy” cookbook. It’s in our Etsy shop. I’ll post the link on the picture.
One reason we chose Italy was that it is so easy to navigate by trains (at least on the West Coast side). I probably should have included this little story in the first blog post. Our arrival. The first time we went we splurged and flew direct to Rome. From Rome we had three trains to get to our hotel. Why so many? Budget. Taxi’s are expensive and train tickets are not. So we land. We walked about three miles in the Rome airport just to get to the train to get us to the main train station. We finally arrive at Roma Termini Station and Kay had planned ahead and had our tickets. Now the second train takes us to Naples where we have to purchase a ticket for the Regional Train to Sorrento. The first train was great comfortable seats, snacks it was great! However, when you go to another country learn a little of the basic language. The ticket person did not like dealing with Americans and was impatient with Kay. We had just a few minutes before the last train of the day left and in the hustle and bustle of it all something happened. We get to the train it’s crowded no where to sit, the doors shut and Kay realizes that she doesn’t have her phone. She had laid it down at the the ticket counter. Well luckily for us our phones sync and all of our digital information was on my phone but we had to share a phone for two weeks. Of course we shut it down as soon as we got to a wifi signal and reported it lost. Now Kay has a phone case that has a ring and attaches it to a cross body lanyard. So that happened… No she has not lived it down!
Instead of reading how about some beautiful sites.
