That huge green roof represents not a famous museum but Central Market of Florence. Downstairs you have all the fresh food you can imagine in your entire life! Upstairs they use those fresh organic ingredients to create any type of meal you are hungry for at the moment. Very reasonably. We usually could eat a full meal and dessert for under $25. Prices had increase there too, not as much. We spoke with several restaurant owners who were very interested in OUR current election. If they had voted it would have been RED just FYI.
Back to the market…you can see the railroad tracks which aren’t that far from the market. Kay found us an Air BnB across the street and life was perfect! We, especially me, are foodies of course. However, my precious wife is not very adventurous and basically a picky eater. This is where Italy is different. Italy is a country that has been rich and poor and back to rich. The people there waste NOTHING! They eat the stalks of broccoli, the buds or asparagus and EVERY part of any animal! Yes, every. It’s not unusual to see brains or other less than desirable meats on the menu. They are a frugal people and use everything, honestly, you have to respect that!
We discovered Central Market on our first trip and we literally dropped our bags and went straight to the market when we arrived in Florence this year. The market section has early hours and closes early. We did not get a chance to see it on our first trip but this time made sure to tour it. The entire building is 3,000 square meters. No GMO’s or non organic meat anywhere to be found! If you ever make a trip to Florence it’s a must see place even if you don’t eat but I bet you’ll at least eat a gelato! Enjoy our pictures!
When you own a pizza food truck you know if you’re in Italy you have to eat PIZZA!!! Of course, I have to take a peak at their ovens too!
